The Fractal Container

Every design question I get asked eventually comes down to the same thing:

How do I structure this so it actually works?

Most answers to that question reach for a formula. Six modules. Three phases. A framework that promises to hold whatever you pour into it. I've never trusted those, because I've spent thirty years watching what actually happens when real learning meets a fixed structure… and it's rarely a clean fit.

Here's what I've come to instead:

“A container should be a fractal of the wisdom inside it.”

Think of a fern. Every leaflet follows the same underlying branching pattern as the whole frond… but no two leaflets are identical.
One's smaller because it's lower down, fighting for less light.
One curls slightly differently because a nearby tree throws shade across that side of the plant.
One grows larger and flatter, angled to catch more sun.
The pattern holds everywhere.
The expression never repeats exactly, because nothing growing is ever in identical conditions twice.

That's what I mean by a fractal container. Not one shape, stamped identically into every module and every lesson.
The same underlying principle, the DNA of the wisdom itself, showing up differently depending on what it's actually growing into that day.

A group of six learners who already know each other changes the shape.
A single one-to-one session changes the shape.
A room that's tired at 4pm on a Friday is not the same room as a fresh cohort on a Monday morning.
And pretending otherwise is exactly how good content turns into a dead template.

This is the part most offer design misses entirely. It treats the curriculum like a fixed object, built once and delivered identically regardless of who's in the room, what's shading them, or what they're reaching for. But real learning design was never meant to be that rigid. The principle stays constant. The form adapts to the conditions around it… the learners, the room, the moment, the light.

That's why I say, form furthering function.
And that’s not just a shape that matches once, at the top.
The whole learning experience becomes a living pattern, holding its integrity at every level, while still responding to whatever it's actually growing in.

When I map the shape of someone's wisdom, I'm not handing them a template to pour it into. I'm looking for the underlying pattern… the thing that has to hold true whether it shows up in a six-month program, a single workshop, or one sentence in a sales page… and then helping that pattern find its own right expression at every scale it needs to exist at.
The whole offer carries it.
So does a single session.
So does one activity inside one module.

They don’t all look alike, but they're grown from the same root.
